Many thanks to everyone who participated in the Hawaii Foodbank Hunger Walk for 2010!!!

I promised everyone that if you all were able to get 150 people to attend with 5 sponsors each, I would cut my hair like Martin Luther (tonsure) and do the walk as Martin Luther. We didn’t get the 150 people but because almost all of our volunteers were able to attend I could not say, no.

Therefore, our angel Mililani, did the honors and gave me a wonderful authentic tonsure, pastor Kieffer provided the robe and I was the spitting image of Uncle Marty!

Next year I hope we have a majority of Lutherans at the Hunger Walk to show that we literally walk the talk and we are advocates for the poor and needy. Jesus would like this I am sure!

Come and hear the voices of the Honolulu Men's Chorus on Saturday, May 29th, 2010 in the Sanctuary! Proceeds from the concert will benefit The Honolulu Men's Chorus and the Angel Network Foodbank.

Hawaiian Homeless Companion:

Radio-Style Musical Variety Show Benefits Angel Network Charities

In the spirit of Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion, an all-original, radio-style live musical variety show, dubbed Hawaiian Homeless Companion, will benefit the homeless relief work of Angel Network Charities.

Hosting the show is noted musician (Hawaiian Eyes, Hawaiian Soul,) and author of Dismembering Lahui, Dr. Jon Osorio, whose day job is Director of the Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at UH Manoa. The show also features local comedian and impressionist extraordinaire Billy Sage.  Both hilarious and moving, it will play for one evening only, Saturday Feb. 16, at Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church in Aina Haina. It will be performed in the oceanfront sanctuary, located at 5339 Kalanianaole Hwy. across from East Hind Drive. Ono sunset grinds from BluWater Grill and beverages will be available at the cash bar before the show, starting at 5:30 p.m. Curtain time for the performance is at 6:00pm.

The Hawaiian Homeless Companion adapts Minnesotan folksiness to the reality of modern day Hawai'i, facing hard truths with down-home humor and song. You won't want to miss the Midwesterners' Kama'aina Guide to Hawai'i, Lives of the Paniolo, fictional talk-radio gasbag Da Hammah, or the Adventures of Guy Niele, PI-- all brought to you by our 'sponsors' the Shoyu Advisory Board and Mapuana's Mapunapuna Manapua.

The evening's musical backdrop will be provided by Osorio and 'house band' Hamajang (the quirky folk-roots outfit formerly known as Friends of the Bride), along with the Honolulu Men's Chorus, music and slam poetry from Jamaica Osorio, The Movement Center's elite keiki dancers, and more.

Tickets are a family friendly $10 for adults and $5 for kids, available in advance through Honolulu Box Office at (808) 550 -8457 or online at honoluluboxoffice.com. Tickets will also be available at the door on the evening of the show.

Founded by Ivy Olson, Angel Network Charities, Inc. has been a haven of compassion and assistance for homeless and underserved in East Oahu since 1990, with outreach programs to other Oahu communities in need.

Hey gang, we have the best confirmation program in the world!!! If you have children in Middle School, 6 - 8 grade, they are expected to be in our confirmation program. Please be sure to get them signed up as soon as possible. We meet most Wednesday nights from 6 - 8 pm with one program on Sunday from 4:30 to 7:00 at one of our other sister congregations each month.

Dear Friends,

I give thanks for all the support you give to Angel Network; you have blessed so many people through your food, time and financial support.

Lately there has been an increased number of people in need of nutritional assistance coming to our doors, and 30% are children!

I would like to remind you to please bring some form of canned or dried food to share whenever you come to church. You can drop off food or financial donations at the food pantry on Thursday or Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. or at the church office during office hours.

Of course, you can always bring food donations to worship and place them in the baskets next to the altar, or be sure to feed the W.H.A.L.E.

We have been blessed to be a blessing!
