An appeal for the Blood Bank

Please donate regularly for your neighbor as well as yourself

An appeal from Pastor Tim

Many of you know that I donate blood regularly to the Blood Bank of Hawaii. I am thankful and proud of everyone who gives of themselves to help those in need. I know so many of our members give of their time, talents and resources… another way to give is to share your blood with those in need, please consider donating your blood and giving someone else another chance at life.

Every single day over 200 pints of blood are needed in Hawaii!  Accident victims can use up to 50 pints of blood; today’s surgical procedures, treatment of childhood leukemia and other cancers (as well as mothers and infants during childbirth) need many more.

Just three teaspoons of blood can save a premature baby’s life!

The need is great – especially when the (largely unpredictable) demand for blood escalates – and when blood donations are down due to vacations, flu symptoms, school breaks, etc.

Blood must constantly be replaced to maintain an adequate supply. Red blood cells only last 42 days -- platelets only five. [A 5-day blood supply is considered a safe level, but when the blood supply dips to 2 days, it is deemed critical.]
